Action needed to ensure families can attain a pre-school place – Mason

Sinn Féin MLA Cathy Mason has called for flexibility to ensure every child has their pre-school place. The call comes while some parents have been left waiting on a pre-school place, despite places remaining unallocated.

The party’s Early Years and Childcare spokesperson said;

“Sinn Féin have been calling on the Education Minister to allow flexibility within the allocation of pre-school places.

“Many pre-schools have not yet reached their maximum capacity and the EA’s current allocation of places is hindering families from being able to access school’s places in their locality.
“We need to see the Education Minister take action to identify areas of high levels of unplaced children and allocate places as appropriate where additional capacity exists.

“Every child deserves the very best start on their education pathway.”
