Another shocking stabbing incident in Dublin City Centre – Mary Lou McDonald TD

19 March 2025

Sinn Féin Leader and Dublin Central TD Mary Lou McDonald has responded to today’s awful stabbing incident in the Ilac Centre on Henry Street by calling on the government to “get to grips with the clear collapse of public safety in Dublin’s City Centre.”

Ms McDonald said:

“This awful incident took place in a shopping centre in broad daylight. This is yet another stabbing in our city. We have told the government that public safety has collapsed in Dublin’s city centre. We have repeatedly urged the government to get to grips with what is an ever increasing problem, especially when it comes to knife crime.

“Dublin City Centre is not safe. That’s the reality. We don’t have the strong visible Garda presence needed. We don’t have enough Gardaí on the streets, on the beat, doing what they do best – policing our city and keeping us safe. That needs to change and it needs to change fast. People must have the right to walk the streets of Dublin safely and without fear. It’s the very least people should expect. The government needs to wake up and recognise the scale of this problem. It must act with real urgency to make Dublin safe.”
