Back in Business Scheme ‘valuable intervention to support revitalization of town centres and high streets’ – Dolan

10 March 2025

Sinn Féin MLA Jemma Dolan has welcomed the extension of the Back in Business Scheme, calling it a valuable intervention to support the revitalization of town centres and high streets.

The Spokesperson for Public Finances said:

“I welcome the extension of the Back in Business Scheme, which encourages businesses to set up in vacant retail premises, helping to revitalise our high streets.

“The closure of businesses in town centres not only affects those directly involved, but also reduces footfall, putting additional pressure on other businesses and risking more jobs.

“The reintroduction of this scheme last year was well received by the business community and has the potential for long-term success as it becomes more established. It provides vital support to businesses and startups and  helps to mitigate their financial  costs for their first two years of trading.

“I look forward to the continued growth of this scheme and it’s role in creating jobs and supporting the regeneration of our town centres and high streets.”
