British government should fully repeal and replace the shameful Legacy Act – Finucane
1 May 2025
Sinn Féin MP John Finucane today reiterated calls for the British government to fully replace and repeal its shameful Legacy Act — one year on from its implementation
He was speaking after joining with families in Belfast earlier today at a protest outside the ICRIR’s offices.
“The ICRIR is incapable of delivering for families seeking truth and justice,” said the North Belfast MP.
“Today, I stood with families, one year on from the implementation of the Legacy Act, calling on the British government to repeal and replace this shameful legislation — as it previously promised.
“Too many families are still without answers, decades after the killings of their loved ones.
“It’s time to establish legacy mechanisms that command the confidence of families and can finally deliver truth, justice and accountability within the framework of the Stormont House Agreement.”
