Constitutional case on Super Juniors progresses with focus on Lowry deal – Pa Daly TD
1 April 2025
In response to his case against the government’s appointment of Super Junior Ministers to Cabinet progressing in the High Court this morning, Sinn Féin TD Pa Daly said:
“This is a very important constitutional case, and we hope and expect that it will proceed to full hearing in early summer.
“Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael have increased the Cabinet to nineteen by the backdoor when the Constitution clearly states it can’t exceed fifteen. It is clear that they are treated as full ministers of the government, with powers to bring forward proposals for decision.
“This is not about making government work better. This is another part of their grubby deal with Michael Lowry.
“It is telling that the only legislation passed by this government, four months on from the election, was to increase pay and expenses for their record number of Junior and Super Junior Ministers. That was their number one priority. Stroke politics at its very worst.”
The next hearing will be on 28th April by the President of the High Court Justice David Barniville where we expect a fixed date to be set for the full hearing of the case.
