Delargy welcomes new Derry to Birmingham route from City of Derry Airport
2 April 2025
Sinn Féin MLA Pádraig Delargy has welcomed the announcement of a new direct flight route between City of Derry Airport and Birmingham, set to commence in September 2025.
Speaking on the development, The Foyle MLA said:
“This is welcome news for Derry and the wider north west region. Improved air connectivity is vital for our economy, businesses and our people, and this new route will open up more opportunities for travel, trade and tourism between our city and England.
“Ensuring direct connectivity from Derry to Birmingham can help boost economic growth and support local businesses, students, and families who regularly travel between both cities.
Mr Delargy also highlighted the importance of continued investment in City of Derry Airport.
“This announcement reinforces the huge importance of City of Derry Airport and the positive role it plays in our community.
“Recently, Sinn Féin ministers took the decision to support the airport with its running costs, and we will continue working to build on this progress.
“I look forward to seeing the benefits this new service will bring to our communities as we seek to secure further routes, investment and ensure long-term sustainability for the airport.”
