‘Fantastic news’ Derry to London Heathrow flight set to continue – Duffy

2 April 2025

Sinn Féin’s Sandra Duffy has welcomed confirmation from Economy Minister Caoimhe Archibald of funding to continue with the City of Derry Airport to London Heathrow route.

The joint investment of £4.63 million from the Department for the Economy and the British Department for Transport will enable Loganair to continue operating the flights to 31 March 2027.

“It’s fantastic news that Minister Archibald has today announced the Derry to Heathrow flight will continue for a further two years,” said Councillor Duffy.

“This builds on former Infrastructure Minister John O’Dowd’s announcement to help fund the airport’s running costs whilst the process to transfer its responsibility to the Department for the Economy continues.

“The north west has huge potential to be a thriving economic hub, and we must continue working to put it firmly on the map as an exciting place to live, work, study and invest in.

“Sinn Féin is committed to driving forward the positive transformation of Derry and the surrounding region, creating more jobs, strengthening the local economy and boosting tourism.

“Today marks another step forward in building a fairer economy for all, with investment and opportunities fairly spread across the island.”
