Sinn Féin MLA Deirdre Hargey has welcomed the completion of the Belfast Tidal Flood Alleviation Scheme.
The £33 million investment, by the Department for Infrastructure, will offer further protection for over 3,000 homes and businesses from tidal flooding.
The flood defences have been installed along the River Lagan, from Stranmillis Weir to Belfast Harbour.
“Ensuring we protect property from future flooding must be a priority, and I welcome the completion of this scheme,” the South Belfast MLA said.
“Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins is committed to adapting to the changing climate and the challenges this presents for our people and communities.
“While fairer funding of the Executive is needed by the British government to enable us to upgrade the north’s existing flood defence infrastructure, this is a positive step forward for our city.”
