Mallaghan addresses rally in London calling for peace and justice in Palestine

15 March 2025

Sinn Féin MP Cathal Mallaghan has today addressed a demonstration in London demanding freedom for Palestine, rejecting ethnic cleansing and calling to stop arming Israel.

The Mid Ulster MP addressed a huge crowd in Whitehall as Israel continues to inflict horror on the Palestinian people in both Gaza and the West Bank.

“For 16 months the world has watched Israel’s crimes broadcast on our televisions and on our phones. A genocide recorded in real time by its victims,” said Mr Mallaghan in opening.

“Alarming calls by President Trump to clear out Gaza have rightly been met with condemnation from the majority of the international community. Gaza cannot, and will not be erased.

“In response to President Trump’s horrific remarks, Sinn Féin has taken the unprecedented decision to not attend the White House this St Patrick’s Day.

“This was taken conscious of the responsibility each of us as individuals have to call out injustice.

“This St Patrick’s Day, we will again highlight the right of nations to self-determination, and we will not abandon the right to national independence and liberation.

“Day and daily, the EU, the US, and the British government are providing cover for Israel’s reign of terror.

“That is why we call on the international community to boycott, divest and sanction Israel.

“While we welcome that the Irish government has finally joined South Africa’s ICJ Case against Israel, it must do more, including pushing for sanctions.

“We will continue to stand with the oppressed and dispossessed of Palestine, and call for peace, freedom, and justice. Saoirse don Phalaistín.”
