More support needed for jurors after trials – Hargey

Sinn Féin MLA Deirdre Hargey has called for more support for jurors after trials.

Speaking after Mr Thompson’s interview with the BBC in which he has stated he developed PTSD after sitting as a member of the jury in a very traumatic court case the Party’s Justice spokesperson said:

“We must do more to protect our jurors after all court cases, particularly those who experience and are witness to particularly traumatic court cases which involve violent and disturbing crimes. 

“While there are counselling services in place for our jurors it is imperative that continuous support is provided and this is something that I believe that our Justice and Health Ministers can work on together. 

“Furthermore the Minister of Justice must also review how our court system selects jurors and ensure that the selection process is fit for purpose.”
