Murphy welcomes confirmation inheritance tax issue raised at British-Irish Council

Sinn Féin MLA Áine Murphy has welcomed confirmation from First Minister Michelle O’Neill that she raised the issue of changes to farmers’ inheritance tax at the British-Irish Council.

The Fermanagh and South Tyrone MLA said:

“The British government’s proposed changes to inheritance tax will have a detrimental impact on farmers and must be reversed.

“I welcome confirmation from First Minister Michelle O’Neill in the Assembly this week that she raised the issue of inheritance tax at the recent British-Irish Council.

“Stark analysis published this week showed this proposed cut to tax relief will affect nearly half of all the farms in the north.

“Sinn Féin will continue to take every opportunity to call out this disgraceful decision and to stand with our farmers.”
