Simon Harris must give full account to the Dáil on Fine Gael’s investigation into its former Senator Martin Conway – Louise O’Reilly TD
10 February 2025
Sinn Féin TD Louise O’Reilly has called on Fine Gael leader Simon Harris to give a full account to the Dáil surrounding his party’s investigation of its former Senator Martin Conway.
Deputy O’Reilly made her comments following yesterday’s resignation of Senator Conway from the Fine Gael party after a series of newspaper revelations over the weekend about his conduct.
These included the revelation that Senator Conway donated €10,000 as part of an apology for alleged inappropriate behaviour towards a female staff member.
Teachta O’Reilly said:
“The Fine Gael leader and Tánaiste Simon Harris needs to come to the Dáil and give a full account of what he and Fine Gael knew about the allegations made against Senator Martin Conway and what procedures were followed.
“Revelations that Senator Conway donated €10,000 as part of an apology for alleged inappropriate behaviour towards a female staff member suggest that this was a serious allegation.
“Newspaper reports suggest disquiet within the Fine Gael party as to why Senator Conway was allowed to run for election for the party. Again, this also points to the allegations being of a serious nature.
“Simon Harris must inform the public who knew what and when, so that the public can have confidence in Fine Gael having the correct protection procedures in place to deal with such matters.”
