‘There should be no further delays to Anti-Poverty Strategy publication’ – Gildernew
12 February 2025
Sinn Féin MLA Colm Gildernew today hosted the launch of the ‘Anti-Poverty Strategy Group’ in Stormont.
The group presented its priorities for an Anti-Poverty Strategy, as well as calling for its publication.
Speaking after the event, the Communities Committee chair spoke of the importance of the plan to tackle poverty:
“An Anti-Poverty Strategy is a key pillar in supporting those struggling, and building a better society which uplifts workers and families.
“Today, we heard about the groups’ priorities for the strategy, as well as a call for its publication.
“Serious concerns were also raised at the event by contributors, and the message was loud and clear; there must be no further delays to publishing this strategy.”
Praising the work of those organisations on the frontline tackling poverty, Mr Gildernew echoed their calls and committed to working with all to tackle this issue:
“These groups are doing tremendous work across the north, but they need support.
“People rightly want to see this strategy brought forward, and I would urge the Communities Minister to do so.
“As Communities Committee chair, I am determined to work with the minister and the other parties to tackle poverty.”
