Two-week extension for CAO applications needed – Martin Kenny TD

Martin Kenny Sinn Fein TD for Sligo Leitrim and Sth Donegal is calling for an extension to the deadline for CAO applications.

Deputy Kenny said;

“The deadline for CAO applications is the 1st of February. There is still a large amount of people throughout the country and especially in the west and Northwest without electricity, phone, and broadband connectivity.

“I have written to both the Minister for Education and the Minister for Higher Education requesting that the deadline for CAO applications be extended by two weeks to give time for Electricity, Phone and Broadband be repaired and for students to have adequate time to complete their applications.

“This is a very stressful time for students who are trying to decide on college places and for others that may be applying for Higher Education Access Route (HEAR) or Disability Access route to Education (DARE) while studying for mock exams.

“These are exceptional circumstances and beyond the control of students. I would hope that both ministers take a common-sense approach to this give a two-week extension for students to complete their applications.”
